June 13, 2022Case Report: Supernormal Vascular Aging in Leningrad Siege Survivors
Oxana Rotar and her team investigated arterial wall stiffness in 305 survivors of the Leningrad Siege to understand how hunger and stressful early-life conditions influenced the long-term cardiovascular health. Within this cohort, they identified two exceptional cases with a “SUPERNOVA” phenotype, suggesting that a cumulative effect of favorable behavioral and socioeconomic circumstances, along with a lack of severe genetic risks, might serve to counteract the detrimental early-life exposures.
