In a research study involving 460 adults between the ages of 55 and 85 recruited from the Wake Forest Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, a team led by Claudia Coffin reported that elevated blood pressure and arterial stiffness are associated with abnormalities in brain microstructure and macrostructure. These findings suggest arterial stiffness may be a potential target for prevention of vascular cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease.
