Stéphane Laurent and colleagues compared a therapeutic strategy targeting pulse wave velocity (PWV) with a conventional strategy for treating hypertension. The study enrolled 536 participants and found that targeting PWV values lower than 10 m/s was effective in blood pressure control and prevention of vascular aging. The combination of renin angiotensin system-blocker and calcium channel blocker at highest recommended doses showed extra benefits in blood pressure control and hypertension mediated organ damage.
