In an analysis of 15 publications consisting of four cross-sectional studies, three retrospective studies, six prospective studies and two case reports, Ioana Zota and colleagues report that COVID-19 patients experience persistent arterial stiffness and endothelial dysfunction, indicating long-term impact on vascular health. Coronary flow reserve is lower in those with hypertension. COVID-19 patients present persistent arterial stiffness and endothelial dysfunction at least four months after initial infection. Patients still exhibit arterial stiffness and endothelial dysfunction at the 12-months follow up.
