June 19, 2018Gut Microbial Diversity is Associated with Lower Arterial Stiffness in Women
A research team at King’s College London led by Cristina Menni studied how gut microbial diversity is associated with lower arterial stiffness in women. In the first human observation linking the gut microbiome to arterial stiffness, the researchers analyzed data from female twins. The team found that gut microbiome diversity and specific microbial abundance were inversely correlated with arterial stiffness, suggesting that targeting the microbiome may be a way to treat arterial ageing.
